RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT By Marianne Zak Meet Dr. Pamela June (pictured on the cover), a clinical psychologist with a PhD from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Originally from Pennsylvania, Pamela is a wife, mother, author, publisher, travel agent, and President of the Lake Ashton Black Heritage Club. She is also the first female “Woman King” in Kuntu Village, Ghana, West Africa. Pamela inherited the traditional title Nkosohen, meaning “Chief of Development,” from her father, who founded a nonprofit organization in 2002 to support education and self-sufficiency for youth in Kuntu Village. In honor of his legacy, the village chief allowed Pamela to retain the male title. Through this nonprofit, more than 100 high school scholarships and 20 higher-education scholarships have been awarded to students in Ghana. After a remarkable career spanning 35 years as a clinical psychologist and 15 years as a school psychologist, Pamela retired in 2024. She has practiced in diverse settings, taught at the university level, trained educators in cultural competency, mentored young adults, and supported children in special education. Pamela is also an accomplished children’s author. Her first book, James Goes Fast, was published in 2023, followed by James and Kudo Dog in 2024. A third book, James and the Blackberry Pie, will be released soon. Her goal is to create engaging stories that help young children find joy in reading. Since November, Pamela has served as President of the Black Heritage Club, bringing an action-oriented, collaborative approach to leadership. Her travel business creates opportunities for trips to Ghana, international travel, cruises, and custom tours.Pamela and her husband, Charles Roland, have lived on Turnberry Lane since 2019. She enjoys travel, writing, and golfing with the LA Niners. She describes herself as “a yardstick, with each inch representing a different facet.” Having our own Woman King in Lake Ashton is just one of the many reasons our community is, indeed, Simply the Best. 14 FOCUS 2030 SURVEY #2 By Iris Realmuto The second survey sponsored by the Lake Ashton Focus 2030 Group is now available.
