LA PICKLEBALL By Mark McDuff At the end of November, the Lake Ashton Pickleball Association (LAPA) held its annual meeting and elected its officers for 2025: Chuck Caesar, President Dennis Santino, Vice President Lisa Savala, Treasurer Earl Schley, Member-at-Large Mark McDuff, Secretary. In November, the LAIICDD Board approved moving forward with the contractor quote for conversion of one tennis court into two pickleball courts. The work is expected to take place in January. In 2025, LAPA is also looking forward to creating competitive teams that will play in a league against teams from other communities. The women’s team will be coached by Deb Knecht. The Co-ed teams will be coached by Duff Hill. To become a LAPA member find the application at the HFC and the fee is $12. FRIENDLY BOCCE GROUP By Stephanie Iszak All Lake Ashton residents are invited to come out on Mondays and Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm to play some fun games of Bocce Ball. No experience is required. Anyone who is playing would be more than happy to teach you and go over the Lake Ashton Bocce Ball rules and regulations. For 2025 we will try something different for our residents. A “Newbie Clinic” is scheduled for January 8 and January 15 from 10 am to 12 pm. This is a great opportunity to come out and learn the game. Friendly Bocce Tailgate parties for 2025 will be held January through April from 4 to 6 pm on the first and third Fridays of the month. Bring your non-alcoholic drinks and an appetizer to share. This is a great opportunity to socialize and play some games. The annual potluck dinner is January 14 from 5 to 8 pm at the HFC Community Room. Bring a non-alcoholic drink of your choice and a dish to serve for a fun night of food and friends. Plates, napkins, and utensils will be supplied. If you plan to attend the potluck a signup sheet will be available in the HFC on the wall, or you The new Community Garden Club hosted Meet and Greet events on December 6 and 11, sharing its mission and goals with attendees in the HFC Craft Room. Guests enjoyed refreshments, video presentations, and the chance to sign up for memberships. Gene, the Barefoot Gardener, pledged his support and two lucky attendees won beautiful gift baskets. Festive poinsettias were also available for pour case to support the club which relies on donations and memberships. The Steering Committee is eager to start creating raised beds, welcoming members, and digging into this exciting community project. Stay tuned to email blasts for updates on when the fun begins!
