TOUR THE CENTER F O R GREAT APES By Linda Ross On January 16 or February 20 you will have an opportunity to visit the Center for Great Apes. A group will leave Lake Ashton at 10:30 am and arrive at the center for our tour at 11:30. There is a donation of $50 per person payable by check, cash or credit card. CHILI COOK-OFF By David Harrison The LA Purple Stars will have its Chili Cookoff fundraiser for the American Cancer Society January 24 from 4 to 6 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. There will be twenty different chilis, cornbread, water and baked goods. Residents can sign up online or at the Clubhouse Activities Office to cook chili or donate baked goods which should be individually wrapped for the dessert table. Tasting tickets must be purchased in advance at the Clubhouse. Twelve tickets for $10, cash or check payable to LA Purple Stars. We will limit sale to 200 strips of 12. Each ticket allows you to taste one chili. New this year, Charm City, our sponsor, will be selling cups of beer for $4 and the corn bread, water and baked goods will cost $1. There wi l l be judges for the "best" chili and prizes will be awarded for first and second place. We will also have a “People's Choice" award. Questions? call David Harrison 863-326-6418. MID ATLANTIC PARTY By David Harrison It's time again to have fun at the Mid Atlantic Party on February 2 at 5 pm in the HFC. Anyone who has ever lived or worked in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania or New Jersey is invited. The menu consists of fried 30 chicken (white or dark), homemade crab cake and a soft drink for $20. BYOB. Tickets go on sale Monday, January 6 at the HFC Activities Desk with a check payable to Mid Atlantic Party. Choose white or dark meat chicken and crab cake when you sign up and bring a salad, side or dessert to serve eight and a serving utensil. Tickets will be sold until Friday, January 24 or 144 are sold. February 2 is the Sunday before Super Bowl and there is no football. This is a great way to meet friends from your state. LAKE ASHTON CLUB FAIR New residents and long-time residents who want to make new friends or are interested in more information about Lake Ashton Clubs, Groups or Organizations should plan to attend the Club Fair on Wednesday, February 5 in the Clubhouse Ballroom from 10 am - noon. Residents will be able to meet representatives, ask questions, sign up for membership or purchase tickets to club events. Light refreshments will be available for all attendees. Clubs, Groups, and Organizations interested in having a table should register online, or at the Clubhouse Activities Office. This is a great time to grow your membership and attract new members, whether you facilitate an exercise group, public safety group, sports activity, or arts and crafts group, or something else! Exhibitor space is limited, so don't wait to sign up online or at the Clubhouse Activities Office. SENIOR EXPO Lake Ashton residents are invited to the Clubhouse Ballroom for the second-annual Senior Expo where we will have a wide variety of vendors that cater to senior needs. The vendors participating in the Expo range in expertise such as cosmetic, medical, insurance, health & fitness, and so much more. This free event will be taking place March 19 from 10 am to noon.
