TOYS FOR TOTS By Fred Halde On behalf of Toys for Tots, Rotary on the Ridge, and countless numbers of kids, I want to extend a sincere “Thank You” to those who generously gave toys and filled the box in the HFC. Through the grapevine I have heard that over 16,000 children were served this year. A big task to say the least. And your contribution, along with many others, helped meet the need. Thank you, LA!!! On a sad note, you may have heard that Toys for Tots may not be in operation next year. With the growing need and the diminishing supply of helpers and route drivers, the health of the operation is in jeopardy. It is unknown if the tide can be turned, but if you might be able to help next year, e-mail polkcountry.fl@toysfortots.org and express your desire to serve. However, for now, many thanks for all of you who gave in the present and the past. Your kindness is appreciated. You make a difference! LA HANDS 4 HOPE YEAR END WRAP UP By Sophia Brennan It's the most wonderful time of the year! LA Hands 4 Hope would like to thank the community for their generosity. On Saturday, December 14, we hosted a beautiful Christmas Lunch for 11 families. Over 50 people attended and enjoyed a delicious meal provided by volunteers from this lovely community, and our group served the families. Kids received a whole bag of clothing and toys. Parents received a lovely gift card. Each family received a beautiful quilt donated by a special resident, Marsha Martin, and her two special friends, Maxine Ritter and Pat Howe, who helped her get ready on time. Santa, Mrs Claus, the Grinch, and Ruby the Elf made a special appearance. The room was filled with so much Joy and Love. Life is good, but it is far better when you serve others. THANK YOU! Thank you to Lynn Shelton, Kathy Williams, and Debby Landgrebe for their help in decorating the Clubhouse Lobby this year. Everything is beautiful and we appreciate you dedicating your time to make the Clubhouse look beautiful. See more pictures on page 28. 14
