LA BLACK HERITAGE CLUB By Pamela June February is Black History Month that encourages us to celebrate Black history. We celebrate to uplift the voices and experiences too often left untold, and to recognize the extraordinary achievements made despite obstacles and challenges. This month reminds us that Black history is American history. It is the innovation of George Washington Carver, who transformed agriculture; the courage of Rosa Parks, who sparked a movement; the genius of Katherine Johnson, whose calculations sent astronauts into space; and the artistry of Alvin Ailey, whose choreography changed the world of dance. It is the legacy of countless individuals whose contributions continue to inspire progress. Black History Month invites us to learn, celebrate, and reflect. Join us for a vivid, educational and engaging presentation that brings history to life through stories, discussion, and reflection on February 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse Ballroom. LA PURPLE STARS By David Harrison The LA Purple Stars will have a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society by selling luminary bags for a minimum donation of $10 at Monday coffee starting February 2. After every Monday Coffee the luminary bags will be sold at the HFC Activities Desk. Decorate the bag to remember a family member or friend you have lost to cancer or someone still fighting this disease. Return the bags, with a small can like soup, to any LA Purple Stars member or Activities Desk staff by March 5. We will put a tea light each bag to illuminate it. All Lake Ashton residents are invited to join the Walk For A Cure at 6:00 pm on Tuesday March 10 at the Clubhouse fountain to walk around the Pavilion and end back at the fountain to view all the lighted luminary bags.
