LAVA AUXILIARY By Chris Graves LA ROCKERS By Connie Strassberg Next Meeting: February 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom, near the stage. You are invited to come check the group out. There are several activities and fundraisers scheduled for 2023. Proceeds for these events benefit a designated Veterans Charity. The first event of the year is the Girl Scout Cookie Drive for the Troops. Last year the group raised money to purchase more than 300 boxes of GS Cookies for men and women in uniform. The Girl Scouts will be making a very special presentation to LAVA Auxiliary and LAVA to acknowledge this support. In addition, the Girl Scouts will be collecting money for the troops to receive cookies this year, and attendees will also be able to purchase cookies for personal use … it should be a YUM, YUM meeting! MR. LAKE ASHTON IS BACK! The fundraiser will be held on April 15 and a few good men are sought to be contestants! Funds raised will go to the Veteran Equine program. Sign up sheets can be found at the Clubhouse and HFC Activities Desks. This event sold out when it was held pre-Covid, and the same is anticipated this year. It is a lot of fun for all! It’s also never too soon to mark your calendar for the Craft Fair which will be held again in October. Both the Clubhouse and HFC have the vendor applications. Stop by and pick one up. GENEALOGY CLUB MEETING By Jane Imparl Come join the Club for an enjoyable and productive work session while looking for ancestors. Bring your laptop/tablet (or use one of the computers in the media center) and delve into the online records to look for that long lost great grandfather or try to knock down that "brick wall". Some members of the group will be there to help and coach you if you need it. The Cub meets Wednesday, February 8 at 2 pm in the HFC Craft Room. Come and take advantage of the group’s expertise. For more information, call Jane at 815-545-6655. Time sure flies when you're having such a good time. It’s so hard to believe that the first month of 2023 is already history. The LA Rocker community spent this past month returning to the regular schedule of meetings/classes every other week. One of those sessions was devoted to a much requested dotting class where members learned to make snowflakes. Leadership is so grateful to have such a talented group of members, each ready and willing to share their expertise with the rest. It is always fun to try something new. If you haven't yet done so, definitely think about joining. You don't need to know how to draw or paint. All you need is the desire to have a good time and make yourself and others happy. Newcomers are always welcome and will be lent the supplies needed for your first meeting. So if you are here and want to enjoy a lovely afternoon with a great group of people, please join the meetings on February 8 and 22. If a meeting has to be canceled, notification will be posted on the LA Rockers group page on FaceBook. Newcomers: PLEASE contact either MJ Richards (mjmrichards517@gmail.com) or Connie Strassberg (cbs1949@aol.com) before coming so that supplies can be prepared for you to use and be able to contact you if a meeting has to be canceled (not everyone is on Facebook). Residents interested in joining a new group should visit the Clubhouse or HFC Activities Desk to obtain the contact information for the facilitator of the club, group, or organization they are trying to join. Thank you to all the club, group, and organization facilitators who work very hard to ensure there is a robust activities schedule for all residents to enjoy. Lake Ashton is lucky to have a large number of residents willing to volunteer their time in one way or another for everyone to live their best retired life. Be sure to view the calendar inserts in this issue for a list of recurring activities held at the Clubhouse and HFC.
