BOLLA By Linda Warden SWIM CLUB Blankets of Love Lake Ashton will be hosting the Annual Trash To Treasure Sale March 14, 2023 through Saturday March 18, 2023. The collecting of items to be sold will begin Tuesday, March 14 in the Clubhouse Ballroom. The sale will begin for Lake Ashton residents only on Friday, March 17, then open to the public on Saturday, March 18. This is a major fundraiser for BOLLA and a big event for Lake Ashton. Save the date on your 2023 Calendar! Volunteers to help moving larger items, transporting to vehicles, and assistance where needed are most welcome. Check next month’s LA Times for more information. BOLLA provides blankets and ponchos to children and teens in crisis in Polk County Schools and other Agencies. Over 800 blankets and ponchos have been delivered this year! SEW WHAT & SO MUCH MORE By Gretchen Frantz The name Sew What and SO Much More describes the varied crafts enjoyed by the members. In this photo are the 434 (and counting) hats to be donated to elementary schools in Lake Wales and Winter Haven, Victory Ridge Academy and the Lake Wales Care Center Caring Tree. Knitted, crocheted or woven on a loom, miles of yarn have gone into these gifts. Donations of regular, 4ply yarn is always appreciated. Other charity projects include dozens of afghans for Hospice, pillows sewn for patients at Advent Health Hospital and crocheted edging on blankets and ponchos for BOLLA. Members are also working on projects with cross stitch, needlepoint, card stitching, diamond dot painting. All Lake Ashton residents are welcome to come share their interests or try something new. Sew What and SO Much More meets every Thursday from 1-3 pm in the HFC Craft Room. Questions? Contact facilitator Gretchen Frantz at 863-875-0195. 33 By Sandy White There's a lot of fitness going on at the HFC indoor pool. Chip Inman takes part in the club's 100 Mile Challenge. He swam to Daytona & back (and never left our pool), and most recently to Ft. Lauderdale. That's over 300 miles so far! Cathy Liska, Sandy Papineau, Kerry Spaedy, Sharon Swanson, and Gena Thornburg represented LA at the Golden Age Games in Sanford November 6 and brought home 18 medals, including eight gold. Each placed in the top three in their respective events. Kerry won two medals at her first meet! Several LASC swimmers have qualified for and will compete in the Florida Senior Games at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex on December 3 & 4. We wish them fast swims! Come swim with us on Mondays from 6 to 7 pm, Wednesdays from 1:45-2:45 pm, and/ or Saturdays 10 to 11 am.
