CLUBS GARDEN CLUB By Pam Klawinski The Lake Ashton Garden Club hosted a Camp Lake Aston’s activity in July with creating mini terrariums. We had a great time putting together these mini ecosystems. A fun time was had by all. Also in July the Garden Club did some trimming and repotted some plants in the HFC pool area as our ongoing community project. The Garden Club will still be on hiatus for the month of August but will be back to regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 am in the Pavilion starting in September. The demonstration accelerated the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 that outlawed racial and gender discrimination, ended segregation and made discriminatory voting practices illegal. Reflecting on this history resonates with current movements concerning racial justice, social inequality, healthcare access, environment concerns, and economic disparity. A reminder that peaceful protest and collective action can change the course of history. And that progress is not a moment, but a movement.
