L.A. LOOKS Central Native Plants of Florida By Lynn Davis Gaillardia pulchella is an excellent pollinator flower. It attracts bees, butterflies and birds. to be engaged and volunteer to maintain its beauty. Interested in ARC? Contact Mike Wilson at arc@lakeashtonhoa.org or 863-325-0065 option 2. Interested in Compliance? Contact: David Muller at vp@lakeashtonhoa.org or 863-325-0065 option 3. Known most commonly as the blanket flower, this daisy like flower can grow to the height of 12 to 18 inches and easily spreads. It is easy to grow and has a long blooming season here in Central Florida. Its red or yellow petals are best from midspring to late summer. Dividing this plant will encourage it to become fuller and last longer. Blanket flowers thrive best in full sun. Gaillardias sold at many retail outlets usually are nonnative. It’s best to purchase from a catalog or nursery specializing in Native Species. This species tolerates the sandy soil and dry conditions in our area. You’ll also find that it’s a winner in hard to grow spots. Make sure to plant where it can easily spread for the best “wow” factor. You’ll be rewarded with beneficial visitors of butterflies, bees and birds because of it’s excellent nectar. LA (LW) HOA CORNER - FIRST QUARTER REVIEW By Brenda Jackson Happy Spring everyone! April sees the beginning of the annual migration of our snowbirds and we wish you safe travels, you will be missed! ARC and Compliance committees need volunteers. Did you know the ARC committee is required by our bylaws? We have to have one and if we cannot fill it with volunteers, we would have to hire a 3rd party company, who does not know us, to come in and manage this process. We have tried this before and it did not go well. Our Compliance committee is here to help us understand and know the CC&Rs and ARC guidelines. Remember, this is your community and requires all of us Our Annual Meeting was scheduled for February 25. Unfortunately, we did not have the attendance to reach a quorum so the meeting did not occur. Let’s thank our new Board members listed below for volunteering their time and efforts in helping us and our community: There is one board seat open.
