IES SupportS VotEr rEgIStratIon at nVCC Voting Rights is one of the 5 focus areas for the National Legislative Agenda. As a committee we choose to have annual programming around voter registration in efforts to help ensure our community is aware of the power of our vote. This year for the Social Action Committee’s Voter Registration Initiative we decided to focus on the local community colleges. We chose community colleges as a way to not only interact with the community, but also help encourage young people to become civically engaged. To accomplish this goal, we planned two voter registration events at the NOVA Loudoun and NOVA Woodbridge campuses. We also made sure all volunteers went through the VA Department of Elections Voter Registration training. During our tabling we had voter registration forms to sign up unregistered students, and created a specialized QR code for students who were unable to sign up during the duration of the events. Through these events we were able to table and meet students at both campuses. Many of the students we met were registered and so we used our presence on campus as an opportunity to remind them to exercise their right and vote in the upcoming general election. 4 them active again. The presentation left us with a strong sentiment to go out and encourage Sorors to reactive. Additionally, the presentation ended with 7 guiding principles: 1. Go After Dreams Not People 2. Love yourself and the rest will follow 3. Never lose your sense of wonder 4. You are capable of more than you know 5. No regrets in life. Just learned lessons. 6. Your only limit is YOU 7. Life goes by in a blink of an eye, so live YOUR life!
