It appears as though the Illinois General Assembly is going to adjourn on time (tonight) with a “balanced” budget that received, not only bi-partisan support, but the most support I’ve ever seen from both sides of the aisle in my 35 years here in Springfield. The budget passed 56-2 in the Senate 98-17 in the House. It was truly remarkable to watch as the hardball partisan politics was pushed aside in favor of making a budget with Democrat & Republican input, in the House, Senate, and in the Governor’s office. I was not certain that we’d ever see such a thing again. A full list of legislation monitored by HBAI this spring will be coming your way early next week. I look forward to seeing all of you on June 21st for our 2nd board meeting of the year. That meeting will be used to review our legislative session, create our nominations committee, focus on membership services, focus on PAC fundraising & contributions, and much more. We did well to protect our industry from a lot of bad bills and we can hopefully move some good legislation in the fall veto session that will help our members here in Illinois.
