RECREATION & PROGRAMMING Teams, Clubs & Associations Ganaraska Freewheelers Cycling Club The Ganaraska Freewheelers is an organization that promotes recreational cycling in Northumberland County. Ganaraska Freewheelers enjoy the social aspects of cycling in a noncompetitive environment. The group rides Tuesday mornings, Friday evenings or mornings, with occasional weekend outings. There are also annual weekend trips to other scenic and cycling friendly areas. Members take turns hosting rides starting anywhere in the Brighton to Courtice, Port Hope to Millbrook locales. Rides are generally from 50 to 60 kilometres, with shorter options provided, at a moderate pace. The club provides programs such as summer camp, Learn-to-Sail, sailing instructions and hosts regular racing nights. Contact Information: Cobourgyachtclub.ca Survivor Thrivers Dragon Boat The Survivor Thrivers work together to inspire hope, to strengthen those affected by breast cancer and to support breast cancer research. In the off-season, we keep fit with dry-land, weight and aerobic training. In addition to dragon boating, the team facilitates The Northumberland Breast Cancer Support group offering monthly support group meetings which occur the second Wednesday of each month at Port Hope Knights of Columbus Hall. NGC is the largest gymnastics facility in Northumberland County and is fully equipped for both men's and women's gymnastics and offer programs to suit all ages and abilities. Contact Information: northumberlandgymnastics.uplifterin c.com 40 Hiking Pine Ridge Hiking Club The Pine Ridge Hiking Club is one of nine member clubs that make up the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association who maintain the trail from Port Hope to the Bruce Trail and to Georgian Bay. Members hike in the beautiful rolling hills of Northumberland - a good way to get to know the out of the way villages and hamlets of the County - and also enjoy the challenge of completing the Ganaraska Trail end-toend. In addition to being the winners of the 2017 RBC Cup, there have been many members of the Cobourg Cougars who have moved on to Division 1, Division 3, USport, OHL, QMJHL and NHL rosters.
