EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION The Town of Cobourg recognizes the vast representation of identities and diversity in our community. Our programs, services, hiring practices, and policies are consistently being updated to include current best practices when it comes to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. We aim to create and offer a wide variety of programs and services that serve the needs of aging, youth, LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC and newcomer communities. If you ever have a comment, suggestion, or concern about inclusive programming, please reach out to diversity@cobourg.ca to get in touch. RECREATION ACCESSIBILITY The Community Services Division strives to foster an accessible and inclusive recreational experience for all. Medical Needs/Medications: Town of Cobourg staff do not provide any medical interventions or support therapies (i.e., injections, g-tube feeding, administering medication, etc.) Program Registration with Inclusion Support: Town of Cobourg Recreation staff will make every effort to create an inclusive experience for individuals of all abilities. If an individual would benefit from certain supports/strategies to participate in programming, families can request Inclusion Support during the registration process. To access this service, families must reach out to the Recreation Coordinator to receive and complete a Participant Profile. (The information in the Participant Profile is only shared with the Recreation Coordinator and Program Facilitators, and Management if deemed necessary). In the event an individual requires support beyond what Recreation staff can reasonably provide, families will be asked to secure a Support Person to attend with the individual. Town of Cobourg staff will work with families to identify support resources if needed. Families who require support but do not disclose it may be required to withdraw from the program if support cannot be secured. Town of Cobourg Refund Policy will apply. Support Person Pass: Individuals who would benefit from support during programs may attend with a Support Person. A Support Person will obtain a Support Person Pass at no cost. To be eligible for the Support Person Pass, a Support Person must be able to adequately fulfill the individual’s requirements for support and must remain with the individual throughout the duration of the program. Fee Assistance Programs: Town of Cobourg residents experiencing financial difficulty due to low income may request fee assistance for membership to the Cobourg Community Centre. An application for assistance must be submitted. Criteria for eligibility are determined by annual income based upon the Statistics Canada Low Income Cut Off (LICO) table. Households that meet the criteria would be eligible for a reduction of the program fee at the Cobourg Community Centre.
