an example, she explains how, prior to Alamar’s birth, she enjoyed dating guys who sold drugs. She has since “done a 180” with her life, she says. Now, she won’t even consider dating a drug dealer. She has also remained childless due to the emotional pain of losing Alamar. Thankfully, Amie can now repeat that popular slogan: “I don’t look like what I’ve been through.” Whenever Amie speaks to a group, the title of her talk is “What Have You Been Robbed Of?” She works to continually motivate herself so she can motivate others. When Amie decided to return to work as an STNA, her spirit was buoyed, as she had an epiphany that helping others was her mission. It gave her joy and she felt needed. She now looks forward to each new day, particularly the opportunity to help others and share her story. Her greatest hope is that she is able to enlighten someone so that they are spared a similar tragedy.
