ECCLES LADIES Good afternoon and a warm welcome from our Women and Girls section at Eccles RFC. Whilst we have been enjoying the Men’s 1XV prompt return to rugby, we have spent our weeks preparing hard for our first preseason friendly on Sunday September 5th. Though we can’t wait to adorn our much loved navy and white hoops, we’re utilising the extra sessions to further refine our craft, whilst introducing some newer players to the tricks of the trade. During a turbulent two years for the Women’s Rugby landscape in Manchester, we have returned to rugby with a renewed vigour; building a team and streamlining our vision. We have created an environment where learning and progress is the cornerstone to our success. We have successfully embedded a culture whereby young players feel valued and empowered to contribute to the group. Despite being young in years, we have a group of extremely experienced players who have developed since their time in our #homegrown junior section. Leah Christian is the epitome of our player development programme, showcasing not only a secure rugby knowledge and ability, but a maturity beyond her years as she consistently drives the standards of those around her. Leah and other young players such as Bonnie Fleming and Georgia Cunliffe have strengthened our squad in recent years, opening the door for new players to join us and learn in a supportive yet competitive environment. As a direct result of the group's collective efforts to create something truly unique, we have seen a rush of new players joining our training sessions and bolstering our playing squad. We now have a wealth of players, each contributing their own talent and strengths to what is easily the most exciting first team we have had in years. As we prepare for our upcoming fixtures, we’re excited to be able to show our dedicated supporters the fruits of our labour, and we look forward to seeing you up on the balcony cheering us on.
