ECCLES JUNIORS Spotlight on U11s Match report: The whole of the u11s family from players, coaches and parents were looking forward to our first game of the season to Preston Grasshoppers. The first quarter of the match was evenly contested. Both sets of lads using the ball well in attack as well as defending their try line. Eccles just needed a pep talk at the interval to remind the players of the good things they had learnt in training at the breakdown and to be more proactive. The second quarter saw Eccles pulling ahead in the game for the very first time in the match with some good line breaks from Seb and Max. Mackenzie’s power proved a vital weapon to the Eccles attack in this quarter. During the third quarter of the match we began to tire due to not having any subs to bring on as a fresh pair of legs. The lads tackled frantically and competed for every breakdown. Vincenzo and Leo for their size did very well in the rucks. Jesse’s tackling was superb. In this quarter the Hoppers pulled back to even. Mark Plumbridge rallied the lads during the last break before the last quarter. The lads gave everything they possibly could in the 10 mins. Caleb drew two defenders before off loading in a tackle which created a try for Max. In the dying minutes we defended our try line magnificently and forced a mistake from Preston. The game was won by Eccles by a single try. A special mention to Theo who played his very first game of rugby and was brilliant. Both Theo and Seb won parents player of the match. Thank you to all the players, spectators and coaches from both teams to help create a fantastic spectacle and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Our U11s team is growing and improving each week. If anyone knows of any players who would love to give rugby a try, please get in touch with coach Pietro.
