FROM THE DIRECTOR ADULTS @ DUCC Dear Campers and Families, My name is Rev. Jay Deskins and I am happy you have this brochure! The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Arizona and the Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ are excited to offer summer camp for our 1st-12th graders. Last year we tried our hand at combining our camping programs, and while that was generally a great experience, we did have some bumps in the road. Those bumps came from some joys, for example, we had some schedule mishaps, but that is because we didn't realize that the joy of DOUBLING camp sizes meant having to totally revisit our camp schedule! In the time in between 2019 camp and 2020 camp, we have been working to update our policies and procedures to ensure camp is safe, age-appropriate, faith-filled, and fun for our campers. This year our theme is "Who's Listening." In a world with competing voices, distractions, and negative messages, we will focus on prayer , listening for God's voice, and listening to our neighbors. We hope the children in your church and family want to participate and join us for another week of DUCC! Peace, Rev. Jay Deskins jdeskins@azdisciples.org Camp cannot happen without the help of amazing adults. Adults can have several different roles at camp. Coordinators - Pre-selected leaders in charge of the daily operation, and pre-camp planning of a particular age group. Counselors - Counselors stay with campers in cabins, lead small groups, and are mentors to campers. If you feel called to being an adult at camp, please reach out to jdeskins@azdisciples.org to request an application. Each adult will have an interview with a coordinator and Regional/Conference staff, and must consent to a background check. Our adults are required to attend an inperson training day and compelte an online training by Praesidium in order for our camp to be both physically and emotionally safe for all children and youth. A JOINT MINISTRY OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN ARIZONA & THE SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
