Story of Us Exhibit By: Leah Davis Witherow, Curator of History The Story of Us is easier than ever to use! CSPM’s SOU project team has made numerous changes and improvements to the SOU digital interface since opening the exhibit in January. Based on user feedback and observations from staff and volunteers, the museum has improved the visitor experience by increasing the visibility and “click-ability” of SOU theme buttons, streamlined the photograph-advance feature and reformatted the opacity function for the historic maps application. Let the museum staff know what you think of the changes, as program refinements will continue based on your feedback. And, did you know that you can connect with the Story of Us from your home and school computer, tablet or smartphone anytime and anywhere? It is super simple, just go to www.cspmstoryofus.com and enjoy exploring the A-Z themes at your leisure. The online accessibility of SOU ensures that you have time to fully discover the layered content and map features. This powerful GIS-based storytelling platform is the ultimate guide to understanding the unique history and geography of the Pikes Peak Region. It also helps to answer many of those, “Where was that?” or “What was that?” questions. If you have not visited the Story of Us recently, take another look and explore the P = Public Art theme. This new addition provides photographs, historical information and locations for the more than 95 publicly owned sculptures and works of art cared for by CSPM and located around the City of Colorado Springs. New themes in the coming months include C = Current; P = Pikes Peak and S = Sankofa. Stay tuned for more information about these themes as work progresses. Finally, be sure to stop by the museum and continue to explore the Story of Us in person. The fabulous A-Z paintings by local artist Phil Lear can only be found in the gallery and are not to be missed! If you ever need assistance with the interactive SOU touchscreens, be sure to seek the help of Jim Wahl, CSPM’s Chief of Security who loves to demonstrate and share SOU with our visitors.
