FIRST NATIONS BLACK SWANS In 2025, the Confident Girls Foundation supported the First Nations Black Swans, providing culturally safe pathways for athletes to develop skills, leadership, and cultural connection, while creating elite netball opportunities nationally and internationally. At the PacAus Netball Series in Brisbane, the Black Swans competed against teams from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, PNG, and Scotland, and participated in yarning circles, jewellery making, wellbeing workshops, and storytelling - strengthening team cohesion, cultural pride, and confidence, and connecting athletes to the international netball community. The First Nations Tournament in Frankston welcomed 80 athletes from across Australia. The event combined competition with culture, featuring a Welcome to Country, bush tucker workshops, painting activities, a First Nations dance group, and the unveiling of the artwork Yapenyepuka - Together. Athletes built skills on-court while deepening their cultural connection and community pride. 8 | The Four-Day Performance Camp in Canberra provided 13 athletes with training, matches, cultural workshops, and a community clinic for local youth, while engaging local coaches and umpires in knowledge-sharing. The program also supported elite pathways, with athletes representing Australia at the World Youth Cup, competing in the UK Super League, and participating in the Super Netball Reserves Tournament. In 2025, the Black Swans program ensured First Nations athletes had the guidance, support, and opportunities to thrive, on and off the court.
