YOUNG ACHIEVERS Introducing Avery Brown, Our Newest Junior Writer An LWHS junior blending creativity, resilience, and a love for writing. MY NAME IS AVERY BROWN and I am a junior at Lake Washington High School. Engaging in a variety of different activities is something essential to me. This is why I make sure to fill my time with a wide spread of activities that work different parts of my brain and my body. I love stretching my imagination through creativity. I paint, draw, sew, write, sing, play instruments, and do theater. I participate in my school’s swim team in the fall, and our theater program in the spring. But above all, I love to write. Whether it be poetry, prose, or even songwriting, my passion for the written word is not only an outlet for me but 18 January 2026 a way to move myself forward. This process of balancing my passion with my success has opened the floodgates for worlds of opportunity, as is shown in my participation with programs like CIEE (a global study abroad program), and Seattle Arts and Lectures - Writers in the Schools. I am proud of the effort and time I’ve committed to angling my life towards a profession in writing. I plan to structure my career with a focus on journalism. I wanted to write about my life in a way that felt authentic, and put something on paper each day, even on days when life seemed monotonous and uninteresting. Not only did this practice serve me as a way of record keeping my favorite moments, it also taught me that something worth remembering can be gleaned from every experience. The days that lacked tangible world exploration, were the days that I could explore my mind the most. Even when things felt boring, I could look inside myself and infuse tedious moments with a feeling of speciality. I wrote more that summer than I ever have in my life. When engaging in extracurricular activities, hobbies, and sports, finding ways to balance everything I am passionate about can be a struggle. However, this struggle has taught me the importance of having a support system. My relationships with my friends and family keep me stable, they are vital to my happiness as well as my success. I am especially grateful to my parents, who are
