Wheel Hop? Brake Pedal Pulsations? Erratic Tire Wear? Excessive Fuel Consumption? If you are experiencing these problems, it may be because your wheels aren’t centered on the hub. And if your wheels aren’t centered, you will continue to experience these problems. With Specialty Products’ Wheel Centering Products, you can re-center your wheel, and eliminate all of these problems. Hub pilot wheel sitting off-center on wheel holes can create gaps Simply slide the 3 cent tapered tools over the wheel studs at the 12, 8, and 4 o’clock positions; mount wheel and add lugnuts; remove the tools and replace remaining lugnuts, torquing to manufacturer specifications. The wheel is now completely centered. Problem Solved! • Threadless Design • Saves Installation Time • Tapered Nose • Eases Wheel Mounting • Single Set • APPLICATION: For Steer, Drive & Trailer Axles Our new threadless design allows the installer to quickly and easily center the wheels to the hub. And our tapered design makes it easy to mount the wheel over the hub. Wheel stud and wheel hole gap can create spaces or gaps between wheel and hub pilot How it works If your hub piloted wheel is sitting on the hub stud off-center (as shown in the illustration to the left) you need these parts and tools to avoid wheel hop and excess tire wear, and to increase your fuel mileage. The theory behind the hub pilot is it centers the wheel. The fact is gravity causes the weight of the wheel to rest only on the upper pilots creating a gap in the bottom pilots. Even the smallest gap results in an egg shaped motion upon rotation. This uneven motion creates rolling resistance which causes tire vibration, increased fuel consumption and erratic tire wear. The bottom line is, you can’t balance an egg. When the wheel rests on the upper hub pilot this produces a gap at the other pilots resulting in an off-center condition. This causes wheel vibration and erratic tire wear. ASCOT NO. MFG.
