PAGE 3 CIMARRON TRAIL PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE By J ason To l l i son Winter brings cold weather and the desire to dig in and stay warm. I think we have been lucky so far this year with a few warm days the past weeks. I have taken advantage of them by taking my Porsche out of the garage and going for some nice rides. I was not alone as I saw some others on the streets. While out I stopped at the store and a lady loading her minivan said, “Nice car, I always wanted a Porsche”. I told her she should go for it. We talk for a bit and she tells me that she has been told they are expensive to maintain and not reliable. After I tell her my perspective of that I mention that I am a member of the PCA which offers vast resources to answer her questions. A reminder to you current members that we a great community I our region and the national group that offers help for a variety of questions related to our cars and the events we take them too. The Zone 5 President’s meeting is on the 17th this month in Little Rock, AR. I will be attending and look forward to meeting with the other regions representatives. The national board of directors meeting is on Feb. 10th. I will be able to attend but will pass on any info that comes from the meeting. I am looking forward to spring and the events Cimarron and our neighboring regions are producing. It takes a fair amount of work from many people to make these events happen. Please recognize them and help if you can. - Jason Tollison

PAGE 6 CIMARRON TRAIL 2017 PORSCHE PALOOZA More than 650 PCAers in 325+ Porsches flocked to Eureka Springs, AR, for the 13th Annual Porsche Palooza November 9-12. The 2017 version was once again staged by the White River, Ozark, and Cimarron PCA regions. People in Porsches of almost every type chose from numerous events including many driving tours, dining opportunities, a variety of goodie store merchandise commemorating the event, a people’s choice car show, even bingo, and a parade of Porsches through the Eureka Springs Historic Loop. Volunteers galore from all three regions make this annual event possible. Leonard and Melody Zechiedrich of the White River region created Palooza in 2005, drawing 57 Porsches and their people. The 2012 edition was the National PCA “Escape to the Ozarks.” Initially the event was held at the Best Western Eureka Inn, but as the years went on and rapid growth of Palooza ensued, the larger Best Western Inn of the Ozarks and Convention Center became the home hotel. Even now the number of Porsche attendees has grown exponentially. As the BW fills to capacity, folks select other hotels, B & Bs, cabins, and private home rentals. Title Sponsor Dallas Motorsports, “located just outside historic downtown Wylie, Texas,” brought a variety of Porsches to display, as well as a complimentary Palooza t-shirt for each registered Porsche. All in all 15 other nationally and regionally known firms including our own Rennsport Werkstatt and SlicKoat, contributed support and door prize items to boost the overall success of the event. Approximately 100 Cimarron Region members showed up in force for this popular Porsche happening. Chances are if you weren’t able to attend, you know someone who did, and it’s highly likely you’ll be urged to make the trip in 2018. It’s a recipe of rhythmic, hilly, twisty, tree-lined mountain roads in northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri that have excellent surfaces conducive to touring and enjoying the autumn landscape. It’s hundreds of new and old friends and acquaintances. It’s relaxation, schmoozing, driving, playing, eating, shopping, and more! (Just add Porsches!) ‘Round these parts, it’s the Porsche place to be every autumn, so come see what so many others have discovered. Watch for more 2018 PCA-Palooza information later this year, and put Palooza on your calendar for November 8 - 11, 2018. Pam and I will see you there! Greg Petzet

PAGE 8 CIMARRON TRAIL AUTOCROSS UPDATE By Mi ke Fugat e 2018 Autocross Schedule Release! We are quickly approaching autocross season. Time to dust off those helmets and get ready for some fun driving and friendly competition! Autocross (also called "Solo", "Auto-x" or "Autoslalom") is a timed competition in which drivers navigate one at a time through a defined course on either a sealed or an unsealed surface. It is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe competition and active participation. Autocross differs from Road racing in that generally there is only one car on the track, driving against the clock rather than other cars. As an entry-level motorsport it provides a stepping stone for drivers looking to move into other more competitive and possibly expensive forms of racing (such as rallying and circuit racing). The Cimarron Region PCA Autocross is a great way to get your feet wet if you want to further hone your driving skills and learn more about car control and limits. It's not only a competitive event but a learning and social event as well. For the 2018 season we will have 14 counting events with several practice and make up events scheduled as well. This is a tentative schedule and subject to change. Please keep an eye on the Cimarron Region website for updates. PAGE 9 CIMARRON TRAIL ZONOTES By J on J ones The ball is rolling on 2018, and calendars are filling up. Lone Star Region might get the first-out-ofthe-box award for hosting a DE on January 20-21 - the feedback I read on social media shows an excellent event. While the heat of summer might play a role in starting the DE season early, I suspect it is the enthusiasm of the members and the regular DE drivers. No snow? Time to get on track! February will be pretty busy in Zone 5. We have the PCA Winter Board Meeting at PCA HQ on February 10th, followed by the Zone 5 Region Presidents meeting in Little Rock on February 17th. With a number of new presidents in the zone this year, the presidents meeting is a great opportunity to learn about all things PCA. This year our guest presenters include PCA President Caren Cooper, National Insurance and Risk Management Chair Ken Laborde, National Driving Tour Chair Greg Halverson, and National Social Media Chair Maggie Garnett. Being a new Region President can be a daunting task when you first start out, especially if you haven’t had much to do with the National Office. By introducing the new presidents directly to some of the people who help guide the PCA world, they learn first-hand that they are not alone. Everyone is committed to helping the Regions and the members get the most from PCA. Region events in February are looking good. Here’s a selection of some February opportunities: Long Horn Region starts their Autocross season at Fiesta Texas on 2/10. longhornpca.org Lone Star Region will conduct a Car Control School at the Houston Police Academy on 2/10. lsrpca.com Ozark Region lists a Little Rock Cars and Coffee event on 2/17 in Little Rock. ozarkpca.org Mardi Gras Region and Whiskey Bay Region jointly present a Driver’s Education event at NOLA Motorsport Park on 2/17-18. mgpca.org and whb.pca.org Hill Country Region starts their driving tour season with Driving Tour #1 on 2/17. hcrpca.org War Bonnet Region is providing a Breakfast social event on 2/17 in Edmond, OK. pca-warbonnet.org Maverick Region is hosting a Driver’s Education event at Motor Sport Ranch in Cresson, TX on 2/24-25. mav.pca.org Cimarron Region has a Chili Cookoff and Bunco Party in Tulsa, OK on 2/24. cimarronregionpca.org

PAGE 10 CIMARRON TRAIL ZONOTES (CONT) By J on J ones These are just a few of the February events in the Zone 5 area. The list is definitely not all-inclusive – by all means please visit the region website or social media pages to see all of your PCA options for February. By the way, if your Region is not listed, I couldn’t find any events on- line. If I can’t find anything, can the members? Most regions are doing a newsletter of some form or fashion, and this is a great thing. PCA actively supports newsletter editors with a National Chair (Barb Coplen) for support and resources. But an important supplement to any newsletter is an online or social media presence. It’s a quick reference for dates, times, locations, and contacts for events. Whether website or Facebook, electronic communication is a fact of modern life and increasingly THE resource for younger members. PCA actively supports electronic communication at the region level with a Social Media Chair (Maggie Garnett) and a Website Chair (Don Roof). These folks are ready to help you initiate or improve all of your communication tools. Within Zone 5, we have many people who are skilled in newsletter and electronic media platforms. If you need help, let me know and we will get it done. In many cases, all that is needed is a volunteer to do it. And typically, for small regions especially, that is the rub. Volunteers are the life-blood of PCA and the individual regions. Without volunteers, PCA would cease to exist as a functioning car club. If you want to help make things better for PCA members and your region, please consider opportunities to get involved. Each region has dinners, drives and other fun times for all of you, the members of PCA. Get out there and enjoy your friends and your Porsche! - Jon Jones, Zone 5 Representative
