Healey & AMG Center for ALS in support of the research of Dr. James Berry, Chief of the Division of ALS and Motor Neuron Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dr. Jenn Morganroth, a principal investigator at the center. Founded in 1988, The Angel Fund is dedicated to supporting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research aimed at finding the cause, treatment and cure for the disease, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In line with The Angel Fund’s longstanding commitment to accelerating progress in ALS research, the funds will support Drs. Berry’s and Morganroth’s research to identify novel biomarkers of ALS onset in genetically at-risk participants from the Dominantly Inherited ALS (DIALS) study. Biosamples will be analyzed using the Nucleic acid-Linked Immuno-Sandwich Assay (NULISA) platform, a new technology that can detect protein biomarkers. According to The Angel Fund, the team will use over 1,000 existing blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from the DIALS study collected over the last eight years from people at risk of carrying ALS mutations.
