A good-sized crowd showed up for the Aug. 25 ribbon-cutting ceremony to check out and enjoy the enhanced recreational facilities at Golden Hills Playground, which include: • Three age-appropriate play structures with slides, climbers, monkey bars, stepping stumps, and numerous fun interactive elements • Full-court basketball court • Six swings Shaded, paved picnic area and benches • • Rope carousel • Water fountain • A forest theme is incorporated throughout the playground, with carvings of woodland creatures integrated into the play structures to complement the surrounding setting • ing • improved drainage • Energy-efficient LED lightAttractive landscaping and Bike rack Town Manager Crabtree thanked the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee and Town Meeting members for approving and supporting the significant $1.4 million Golden Hills Playground improvement project. “A project of this size requires the support and hard work of many people,” Town Manager Crabtree said. “Golden Hills continues a longstanding commitment shared by the Town administration and the Board of Selectmen to improving parks, playgrounds, and recreational facilities throughout Saugus. With the consistent support of the Finance Committee and Town Meeting, that commitment has resulted in major improvements at Veterans Memorial Elementary School Playground, Bristow Park, Anna Parker Playground, and other recreational facilities, along with the work now underway at Stackpole Field.” Town Manager Crabtree recognized state Senator Brendan Crighton, state Representative Jessica Giannino and state Representative Donald Wong for their collective efforts to net the Town $75,000 in supplemental state funding over two fiscal years to assist with the Golden Hills Playground project. Town Manager Crabtree thanked Kevin Nigro of PMA Consultants, who worked closely with the Town to plan and build the new playground. Town Manager Crabtree also thanked former Selectman Corinne Riley, the contractors, Town employees and others who contributed their time and expertise to the Golden Hills Playground project. The cost of rent. The cost of utilities. The cost of food. The main message I have for the Saugus people is this: Saugus is the biggest part of the 9th Essex House District. So, get out and vote.
