But Early/Absentee Ballots are already in the mail to Saugus residents who request them so they can vote early By Mark E. Vogler f you are a registered Democrat in Saugus, you should have at least three major reasons for voting in the Sept. 1 state Primary Election. The major one would be to choose between incumbent U.S. Sen. Edward J. Markey or his challenger, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton. The second reason would be to pick from the six candidates who are seeking to fi ll Moulton’s vacant congressional seat. Your third reason is the District 6 Governor’s Council race. Terrence W. Kennedy, of Lynnfi eld, who has served since 2011, faces a challenger – Diann Mary Baylis, an immigration attorney of Marblehead. Right now, the winner faces no Republican opposition in November unless a candidate mounts a writein campaign. You have a fourth reason if you are a Democrat registered to vote in Precincts 1, 2 or 4 through 9 – picking between two Lynn residents – Lynn City Councilor Peter Meaney and Lynn’s Inspectional Division Director, Zosia Jean VanMeter, for the right to challenge longtime state Rep. Donald Wong (R-Saugus) in the Nov. 3 state General Election. Wong, who seeks a ninth term, has no primary opponent – but will face his fi rst political opponent in four elections after his uncontested victories in 2024, 2022 and 2020. If you are a registered Republican in Saugus, regardless of the precinct, your major reason for voting will be to help decide between two candidates to represent your party in the Nov. 3 General Election against Gov. Maura Healey, who seeks her second four-year term in this year’s gubernatorial race. Michael Roger Minogue of Hamilton is running against Brian Shortsleeve of Barnstable.
