Page 12 THE SAUGUS ADVOCATE – FriDAy, JUly 31, 2026 OBITUARIE Carolyn Hashem O f Saugus, Passed away peacefully on July 12, after a courageous battle with lung disease. She was 84. Born on December 4, 1941, in Lynn, Carolyn was the daughter of the late George and Frances (Cuthbert) Price. She was raised in Saugus, graduated from Saugus High School with the Class of 1959, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and later received her master’s degree from Salem State College. Carolyn began her career as a mathematics teacher, teaching at both Saugus High and Junior High School. After several years in the classroom, she chose to leave teaching to devote herself to raising her children and supporting her family. She embraced her role as a homemaker with pride, creating a home fi lled with love, encouragement, and unwavering support. Together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage until Tom’s passing in December 2025. They built a life centered on family and raised two children, Michael and Pamela. She rarely missed one of her children’s games or school events and was the steady anchor of the Hashem family. She and Tom also treasured the lifelong friendships they shared with William and Carol Cox, enjoying many vacations and countless memories together over the years. Carolyn especially loved spending time with family and friends at their camp in NH, where many of those memories were made. She was also a devoted Disney fan and looked forward to every trip to Walt Disney World, where she found as much joy as her children. He crossed over with the love of his family surrounding him at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a devastating illness. He was the beloved husband of Lynne (Ingersoll) Grasso with he shared 58 years of marriage. Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late Michael and Antoinetta (Bavaro) Grasso. He served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and was loyal American and member of the American Legion Post 210 in Saugus. For over 25 years he was an anonymous Secret Santa for the Revere Police Department’s Christmas toy drive. He truly loved doing this each year but with no fanfare or pictures of him. Just knowing he was making the children, and their mothers have a good Christmas was enough for him. He was a man to be admired for his integrity and kindness to all and if you knew him you were blessed. In his life he loved his family above all, besides his wife he is survived by his adored daughter Audrey Ayers and her husband Michael, he was the cherished “Nonno” to their children; Connor and Chloe all of Saugus. He leaves his sister Maryann Duff y and her husband Bill, brother-in-law Bill Ingersoll and his wife Sherry of Randolph, sister-in-law Vivian Ingersoll of Saugus. Missing him will be many nieces and nephews but especially his “Five Izzo ladies” and their families. His good friends at “59” will miss his kind nature and generosity to all. Mike was predeceased by his sister Theresea Young and her husband Dick; brothers in law Rick and Charlie Ingersoll. You were loved “Nonno” and we will never forget you. Relatives and friends were invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, on Monday, July 27.A funeral service was in the funeral home on Tuesday.
