Counter-protestor Dan Hegarty respectfully held a sign stating “SAUGUS POLICE #1 – WE NEED OUR COPS”. Signs reading “This is not his DREAM” and “BEING KILLED IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH” stood out in the protest. Residents Nancy Prag and Kayla and Maryann Mazzarini showed their support. With “George Floyd” written on her legs, as Nyley Moise became emotional, she said Saugus wasn’t a fun town to grow up in and that the first time she was called the “N” word, her teacher said she was being overdramatic.
