By Janice K. Jarosz I t was 1948, World War II had ended a few years earlier and the Cliftondale area of Saugus was full of thriving businesses, foot traffi c and happy people! Take a look at this old newspaper ad from 1948. Most of the stores in the ad no longer exist. How many stores do you remember? The ad shows how vibrant that business was in Cliftondale and how important it was to the community. Cliftondale has long been an important part of Saugus. And we want to honor the people and businesses – past and present – with a “Welcome to Cliftondale Celebration.” The Marleah E.
