Crabtree has made public safety the top priority in the budget he has crafted for the 2020 fiscal year, which begins in July. The proposed spending plan that the Annual Town Meeting will vote on in May includes funds for three additional police officers – with two of them designated specifically for the new traffic unit within the Police Department. At the same time, the town manager is requesting enough money to hire two additional firefighters. “We have an all-time high of police and firefighters,” Crabtree declared Wednesday night as the Finance Committee reviewed the Public Safety budgets. Finance Committee members were receptive in their feedback to the proposed public safety spending, as Interim Police Chief Ronald P. Giorgetti and Fire Chief Michael C.
