THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2026 Page 5 Former Revere High standout runner Olivia Rupp completes first marathon By Melissa Moore-Randall N ot many positive things came from COVID. However, for Olivia Rupp, a 2026 Revere High graduate who was sixth in her graduating class, it helped turn her into a marathon runner. Rupp, a freshman at Northeastern University studying Math, completed her fi rst marathon over the Columbus Day weekend at the Amica Newport Marathon in Newport, Rhode Island. She fi nished fi rst in her age group and 25th overall in the women’s bracket with a time of 3:36:02. Born and raised in Revere with her parents Paul and Heidi and twin brother Nick in her mom’s childhood home, Olivia grew up playing basketball and softball. “I started running in 7th grade during COVID through the Rec Center’s Run Club at Harry Della Russo Stadium. I initially joined to see friends but quickly fell in love with running faster and longer. In high school, I shifted fully to running Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track.” Her shift included contributing to a co-Greater Boston League championship, six Greater Boston League championship titles, four all-star titles for cross country, six all-star titles for indoor and outdoor track and three school records. The idea fi rst sparked when I watched the Boston Marathon with my teammates junior year — the energy was unforgettable. After graduating, I missed practicing daily and talked with my crosscountry coach, Coach Katie Sinnott, about continuing running posthigh school. She, having run many marathons herself, encouraged me and gave me a training plan, which made the marathon feel possible. “My regimen started with a light base since I already had a running background. Once I began working, training required discipline since most runs were early mornings before long shifts on my feet. I trained almost entirely through the summer heat, which helped build endurance including routes from Revere Olivia Rupp is joined by former Revere High standouts Danni Hope Randall, who broke the RHS softball school record with 600 career strikeouts (left), and Gemma Stamatopoulos, who broke 17 school track records in both individual and relay events. Beach to longer loops through Revere, Saugus, Everett, Winthrop, and East Boston. “I went into the marathon nervous but excited, aiming to have fun and fi nish strong. The fi rst half was electric; seeing family, friends, and my former track coach along the course was motivating. The second half was tougher, but I took it mile by mile. I never hit ‘the wall,’ and the fi nal mile was fueled by knowing I was going to be met by my mom, dad, best friends Gemma and Danni, and former track coach Racquel.” Olivia is now focused on fi nishing her first semester at Northeastern with a goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
