THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2026 Page 11 RHS PATRIOTS SPORTS ROUNDUP Football Pats survive Lynn English rally; boys soccer rolls toward playoffs By Dom Nicastro R evere High’s football team survived a furious Lynn English comeback to earn a thrilling 35-28 victory, while the Patriots’ boys soccer team continued its impressive march toward the postseason. Girls soccer also strengthened its playoff position, volleyball closed out a busy stretch, and girls cross country celebrated several personal-best performances. Football holds off Lynn English in 35-28 thriller For much of the fourth quarter, Revere appeared headed toward a comfortable victory over Lynn English. But by the fi - nal seconds, the Patriots needed one last defensive play to preserve a hard-earned 35-28 win over the Bulldogs. Senior Sergio Peguero delivered it. After Lynn English recovered an onside kick and drove inside the Revere 5-yard line, Peguero broke up a fourth-down pass in the end zone to seal the victory. Coach Lou Cicatelli could hardly contain his excitement afterward. “That was in his hands,” Cicatelli said of the Lynn English receiver on the game’s last play. “Sergio just came out of nowhere and said, ‘Not today,’ and belted it down.” The Patriots (3-4) snapped a two-game losing skid. They overcame two first-quarter turnovers and a 12-7 secondquarter defi cit behind a punishing rushing attack that produced 375 yards, according to Cicatelli. Reda Atoui led the way with 155 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns. Ismael Romero-Gonzalez added 115 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns, while Anthony Pelatere contributed 35 rushing yards. Revere’s first touchdown came after David Cruz tipped a Lynn English pass that Arthur Nazareth intercepted at the Bulldogs’ 25-yard line. Romero-Gonzalez eventually scored from 10 yards out to give Revere a 7-6 lead. English answered with a 21yard touchdown pass to regain the lead, 12-7, with 1:48 remaining before halftime. What followed was one of Revere’s most important — and impressive — drives of the season. Starting at its own 36, Revere moved quickly behind Atoui’s running and quarterback Jose Fuentes’ passing. RomeroGonzalez converted a critical fourth-and-2, and Fuentes connected with Atoui for a 36-yard gain to the English 3-yard line. Atoui eventually scored on fourth-and-goal, giving Revere a 14-12 halftime lead. Cicatelli said the drive reflected the team’s improvement in clock management, something the Patriots had emphasized in practice after having earlier-season troubles. “It was great time management,” Cicatelli said. “I think I had maybe two timeouts, and we just used it perfectly.” Atoui scored again on fourthand-3 from the English 8-yard line in the third quarter, extending Revere’s lead to 21-12. Romero-Gonzalez then burst through a hole up the middle for a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, making it 28-12. English responded with a touchdown to cut the defi cit to 28-20, but Atoui answered with a 43-yard run to the Bulldogs’ 1-yard line before scoring his third touchdown for a 35-20 advantage. English scored again and recovered the ensuing onside kick, setting up the dramatic fi nish. Pelatere made a crucial tackle near the goal line on the Bulldogs’ fi nal possession, preventing a touchdown before a penalty pushed English backward. Peguero then delivered the decisive pass breakup to ice it. Cicatelli also praised the defensive efforts of Atoui and Romero-Gonzalez, who contributed on both sides of the ball. The Patriots’ off ensive success was fueled by strong blocking from Yahir Chocoj, Silvio Neto, Cesar Herrera, Nicolas Cespedes and Mikhai Pyram. Fuentes finished with 70 passing yards, while kicker Emmanuel Lopera converted all fi ve extra-point attempts. Revere now turns its attention to Whittier, a matchup Cicatelli believes could have signifi cant Division 3 playoff implications. The game is set for Friday, Oct. 30, in Revere at 6 p.m. “I think if we win, we could right be on the cusp of getting in the playoff s,” Cicatelli said. Regardless of how the postseason picture develops, Cicatelli believes his team can fi nish with a winning record. “Obviously, we want to make the playoff s, but the kids want to have a nice winning record,” he said. Boys soccer improves to 14-1-1, sits No. 12 in Division 2 Revere’s boys soccer team continues to build an impressive postseason r?sum? under coach Gerardo Rodriguez. The Patriots improved to 141-1 with a 5-1 victory over Everett on Oct. 27, extending their unbeaten streak to 15 matches since a season-opening 3-2 loss to Central Catholic. Revere will fi nish at least.500, which provides the path into the MIAA Division 3 tournament despite its position outside the top 32 in the power rankings. Volleyball battles through late-season schedule Revere’s volleyball team experienced a difficult stretch but also picked up a late-season victory as the regular season approached its conclusion.
