During the 131st annual Jewish War Veterans (JWV) National Convention held in Albany, New York Aug. 23-27, the JWV national awards committee introduced the prestigious Bernard Becker Memorial Award. This award recognizes the Jewish war veteran who has made exceptional contributions to Judaism. The fi rst recipient of this esteemed honor is JWV past National Commander Ira Novoselsky from Massachusetts Prince-Strauss Groman Post in Revere. The award presentation was made by JWV National Commander Scott P. Stevens. Novoselsky is the longest serving member of the Revere City Council and formerly served as president of the former Congregation Tifereth Israel on Shirley Ave. JWV National Commander Scott P. The ceremony opened with a tribute to the emergency personnel and civilians who died during the attacks, including 343 New York City firefighters and paramedics, 23 NYPD officers and 37 Port Authority police offi cers, as well as civilians and military personnel killed at the Pentagon and aboard the four hijacked aircraft.
