Written by Paul Pörtner and directed by Tyler Rosati and Liv Dumaine, this wildly interactive whodunit invites audiences into the action for a murder mystery where no two performances are ever quite the same. Set inside the bustling “Shear Madness” hair salon, the comedy begins with juicy gossip, outrageous characters and a murder just upstairs. But this is no ordinary whodunit. Audience members become part of the investigation, spotting clues, questioning suspects and ultimately helping crack the case. Fueled by improvisation and audience in* Member of Actors’ Equity Association ** Young Company alum teraction, the action shifts nightly based on the audience’s sleuthing skills, making every performance a new experience. The production brings together a cast of familiar GBSC faces alongside performers with a unique connection to the show’s storied Boston history. Tyler Rosati stars as salon owner Tony Whitcomb in addition to codirecting the production. Also appearing are Ceit M. Zweil* as Barbara DeMarco, Alex Leondedis as Mikey Thomas, Mark Linehan* L. McMahon* as Eddie Lawrence, Joseph Marrella* as Nick O’Brien, and Cheryl as Mrs. Shubert. Sarah Morin serves as understudy for Mrs. Shubert, Barbara and Mikey. Leondedis understudies Tony, Nick and Eddie. For Marrella and McMahon, “Shear Madness” is also a homecoming of sorts. Marrella spent eight years with the record-breaking Boston company of “Shear Madness,” performing the roles of Nick, Tony, Eddie and Mikey; McMahon was also a member of the show’s longtime Boston company at the Charles Playhouse. “Shear Madness has such a special place in Boston theatre history, and we couldn’t think of a more joyful way to open Season 27,” says GBSC Producing Artistic Director Weylin Symes. “What makes this show so much fun is that the audience isn’t simply watching the mystery unfold; they’re part of it.
