Page 14 THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2026 RPS helps students get ready for school with backpack giveaway Special to Th e Advocate L ast week Revere Public Schools (RPS) students received assistance in preparing for the new school year as hundreds of backpacks fi lled with school supplies were distributed to families during the district’s annual back-toschool backpack giveaway. The event, which was held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Revere High School gymnasium, brought together RPS staff and volunteers, the City of Revere, the Revere Police Department, Revere School Committee members and the Mayor’s Offi ce to make sure students had some of the essentials they needed heading into the fi rst day of school. This year’s backpacks and school supplies were generously donated by Cradles to Crayons, continuing a community eff ort to ease some of the back-to-school expenses facing local families. Families began arriving before the 4 p.m. start, and volunteers were present to distribute the new backpacks and supplies on a fi rst come, fi rst served basis.
