Tribu served Hernan Ramon Marrero, 50, of Roslindale, nine alcoholic drinks during threeand-a-half hours shortly before the crash, according to a report released last week by Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker. “ Toxicological testing showed Marrero’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) to be 0.192 g/100 mL, over twice the legal limit,” the report noted. “Also present in his blood were Bupropion (Wellbutrin) 30 ng/mL, an antidepressant and smoking inhibitor, and Hydroxybupropion 100 ng/ mL, a metabolite of that drug.” Thirty-year-old Trooper Kevin T. Trainor, of Georgetown, who died from injuries suffered in the crash, “demonstrated exemplary courage and self-sacrifi ce,” DA Tucker said in his statement. “His willingness to put his own life at risk to serve and protect the citizens of the Commonwealth likely prevented an even greater tragedy,” Tucker concluded. Meanwhile, Tribu is the subwww.810bargrille.com ject of a probe by the Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC). The ABCC has issued notice to Tribu alleging multiple violations of civil regulations for serving alcoholic drinks after hours and for serving free drinks. A hearing on those allegations is set for next Tuesday (July 28). Once the ABCC completes its hearing, the Saugus Board of Selectmen — which acts as the town liquor licensing authority — will conduct its own hearing in the case. “The Board is in communication with the ABCC and working collaboratively in this matter,” Board of Selectmen Chair Debra Panetta told The Saugus Advocate this week. “The ABCC still has an active investigation and will continue to work with us once their investigation is complete. Once the ABCC completes their investigation, the Board can take appropriate action on this matter,” Panetta said. She added that the ABCC requested that selectmen not speak on issues related to Tribu until after the commission’s hearing. “I am taking my direction from the ABCC,” Panetta said. “I will call my contact after the hearing for next steps. I have been following this closely, and have been in close communication with the ABCC,” she said. Board of Selectmen Vice Chair Anthony Cogliano stressed that selectmen need to review the ABCC fi ndings before making a decision. “I think it’s important for all of us to know the facts before we comment on the incident,” Cogliano said. “I know the ABCC is conducting an investigation and I look forward to hearing what they have to say and if they are off ering a recommendation to the Town for us to proceed,” he said. The investigation into the fatal crash was spearheaded by the Essex County State Police Detective Unit attached to the District Attorney’s Office. The State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.), the State Police Crime Scene Services, the State Police Technical Services Unit, the MassDOT Safety Inspectors, the Offi ce of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) and the Lynnfi eld and Saugus Police Departments also assisted. “In summary, the investigation revealed the following: Marrero began his evening at a restaurant in Waltham where he purchased food and was provided one complimentary drink; his tab closed out at 7:42 P.M.,” according to the district attorney’s report.
