I try to get to the beach as much as possible. Mostly Shay’s Beach, aka Constitution Beach here in East Boston and not getting too bored. I still get back over Wollaston Beach where I once lived. Two great beaches to hang out at. My object is to get a good tan and get nice and dark. Being Sicilian and Irish all at once, I have discovered I never burn or turn red as a tomato like my mom always did at the beach. Thank God for that good ole Sicilian DNA along with 4 percent Tunisian DNA for good measure. PROGRAM | FROM Page 11 tion for the first 10 years. If the home is resold, it must be resold at an aff ordable price. From 10 to 20 years, if there is a profi t from the sale of the home, the homeowner and Trust split the profi t. After 20 years, the homeowner owns the property outright with no aff ordability restrictions. The Buy Down program is funded by the Affordable Housing Trust, the Community Development Block Grant and T he Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival was last weekend, and RevereTV posted daily updates and coverage all week long. Watch the short videos from throughout the competition and the full recording of Saturday’s Awards Ceremony on the RTV Community Channel and YouTube. Before watching the Awards Ceremony, check out the individual sculptures in the photos and videos posted to the RTV Facebook and Instagram accounts to see if you can guess the winner. RevereTV thanks Erica Porzio, who hosted all of this year’s sand-sculpting updates! Erica Porzio also hosted this year’s rendition of “Conversations with the Mayor.” The two talked about developments across the city, including updates on Revere’s small businesses, the International Sand ~ GUEST COMMENTARY ~ Living A Beach Bum Summer Again By Sal Giarratani Going to the beach can be very healthy if you don’t lie there too much or too long. I love the summer heat and sun, but I don’t care much for skin cancer. Back on my 37th birthday, I had some surgery over at the Carney Hospital to remove some skin cancer from my nose. Nothing has ever grown back, and I use plenty of sunscreen, number 100, today. Finally, is it just me or is summer zooming by. The World Cup has thankfully left East Boston, and I have my parking space back. Between soccer and the Tall Ships, it’s been hell living in Jeffries Point. Well, Eastie Week is almost state assistance with a capped amount of help per household. At their meeting earlier this month, the board discussed advertising the program and designing the applications to be eligible for the program applicants — must have a local connection, such as two years of residency in Revere or have a child in the Revere school system. Applicants must also fall into the low-to-moderateincome range. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and will be available in here as is Taste of Eastie. These last two summer events never took parking spaces away for me Another sign that summer is moving along too fast, I am already thinking about my end of summer vacation to my niece’s Tanya home just outside of Minneapolis and another trip to the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, MN. After that, soon my beach chair goes back into the cellar. My sunscreen packed away and then back to the classroom for another school year. Summer doers move fast right after July 4th but remember the whole month of August is still ahead of us, right? English, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. Board members plan to engage local banks and lenders in Revere, so they understand the program and can work with its requirements. They also intend to blanket the city with fl yers, light up social media with information and do whatever it takes to get the word out to residents who might benefi t from this opportunity. Applications for the Buy Down program are expected to be available this fall. RevereTV Spotlight Sculpting Festival and other exciting projects shaping the community. Mayor Patrick Keefe refl ects on his experience serving as mayor and what he sees ahead for Revere. Then, in a similar special program, Mayor Keefe is joined by Carol Tye for a conversation about the latest updates about Revere High School, the redevelopment of McMakin Field and what’s new for Revere Public Schools students and the community. Both of these programs are posted to YouTube and can be viewed on the RTV Community Channel. Last week Mayor Keefe — in collaboration with Revere Parks & Recreation, the Department of Planning & Community Development and the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Foundation — celebrated the grand opening of a brand-new soccer pitch at the Beachmont School! The Mini Pitch at Frederick’s Park was awarded to the city by the U.S. Soccer Foundation. A mini pitch is a hard-court surface suitable for soccer games. The pitch is ready to inspire a new generation of soccer players! Watch the recording of the grand opening now on the RTV Community Channel. While in the Beachmont neighborhood, check out the amphitheater that just opened at the new Suff olk Downs development. It is called The Amp, and the City of Revere held a ribbon-cutting ceremony a few days ago that was recorded and is now playing on RevereTV | SEE Page 21
