(Courtesy Photo) Revere Board of Health bans kratom sales beginning Sept. 1 By Barbara Taormina A t their meeting in late June, the Board of Health voted unanimously to ban the sale of kratom products in the city of Revere. The new regulation will take eff ect on September 1, giving the Health Department time to educate retailers, who will then have several weeks to remove all kratom products from their shelves or face fi nes. Kratom comes from the leaves of a tropical evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. People chew the leaves or crush and brew them into tea for pain relief and mood enhancement. In low doses, kratom can function as a stimulant, increasing energy, and in higher doses it acts as a sedative, helping users feel calmer and less anxious.
