THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, JULY 3, 2026 Page 9 DECLARATION | FROM Page 1 In 1776, Massachusetts was the only colony to distribute copies of the Declaration to every town, requiring ministers to read it publicly and directing town clerks to record it in their offi cial record books. To honor that tradition, Revolution 250 has reproduced the Declaration using a historically accurate printing press and paper and is distributing one copy to each of the Commonwealth’s 351 cities and towns. During the event, Mayor Patrick Keefe, along with State Representatives Jeffrey Turco and Jessica Giannino, had the honor of presenting Revere’s copy so it can be preserved and used for future commemorations of the nation’s founding. Former Revere High School History Teacher Jeff Pearlman noted that not all 50 states signed the Declaration until January. Mayor Patrick Keefe said that the words they were about to hear were read aloud during public gatherings. Historical Society President Robert Upton said he’s proud to be from Revere. Marguerite Upton sang the National Anthem. Revere’s Historian, Jeff rey Pearlman, read the Declaration of Independence.
