THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 2021 Page 15 GRADUATION | FROM Page 14 most of the challenges during COVID-19 by pulling together. “COVID was to us what the New York Giants were to the New England Patriots’ perfect season; it was the tip of the iceberg to the Titanic of our senior year,” said Nater. “I know that those in power tried to make the last couple months of our school year enjoyable, but it still wasn’t close to the High School Musical Dream.” While Nater said he could recite a long list of everything this year’s graduates missed out on, he said he would rather go on about how the class pushed through the struggles. “Every Revere teacher from the Beachmont School to Rumney Marsh to the high school can tell you it’s not about how you struggle: It’s about how you fought to overcome those struggles,” Nater said. “This year put that saying to the test …this class achieved. The class of 2021 has kids going to universities, trade schools, state schools, community colleges and the military, and this class gave back.” Nater talked about how the class members embraced their diverse backgrounds and led the fi ght against injustice in Revere and beyond. “You guys are awesome and signify not only the best of what Revere has to off er, but what it should strive to be like. Even with the world collapsing around you, you guys overcame adversity and received your diplomas tonight.” Gilbert Oviedo raised his fist in victory before receiving his high school diploma. Salutatorian Viktoriya Kalinina graduated with a 4.6 grade point average. Sydney Ciano, who graduated with a 4.6 grade point average, plans to attend UMass Amherst. Revere High School Class President Elijah Nater recited the Pledge of Allegiance during Tuesday’s commencement at Harry Della Russo Stadium. Class President Elijah Nater will attend Boston University to study fi nance. Salutatorian Viktoriya Kalinina, who has a 4.6 grade point average, plans to attend Brandeis University. Senior Class Secretary Minnah Sheikh with Class Treasurer Adetayo Atitebi Principal Dr. John Perella said the Class of 2021 is a vibrant and diverse community of scholars, athletes, artists and caring, wonderful people. Nina Cassinello gave the poetry reading “Creation,” which was written by valedictorian/poet laureate Sydney Ciano. SeaCoast High School Principal Dr. Stacey Mulligan, congratulated her school’s students. Domenic Reed receives his diploma from RHS Principal Dr. John Perella. Senior Nicole Barbosa received her diploma. Richard DiMarzo receives his diploma from Principal Dr. John Perella.
