(Advocate Photos by Tara Vocino) Griswold Park scoreboard named in memory of the Ardagnas By Tara Vocino refurbished scoreboard at Griswold Park was recently named to honor the memory of Tony Ardagna and his daughter, Vanessa. Vanessa, 19, a star softball player at Revere High School, and Tony, 57, a softball coach, passed away from cancer in 2007 and 2001, respectively. A “Vanessa had a glowing life ahead of her,” said Mayor Brian Arrigo. “Her story inspires thousands of young people to play softball.” Arrigo said those who play on that field will forever be the teammates of the Ardagnas. Softball coach Joseph Ciccarello said it was a great pleasure to coach Vanessa and that she got dirty with a smile on her face. Vanessa’s sister, Natalia Ardagna, said she and Vanessa spent so much time on the field, playing all four years at Revere High School, adding that Vanessa GRISWOLD PARK | SEE PAGE 4 lection time is heating up in the city of Revere, as current officials are seeking reelection and challengers are actively campaigning. With the final vote taking place this November, many are curious to see who will take office as the decisions role in. As of Friday, May 24 these are the current candidates seeking nomination in the 2019 election: Current Mayor of Revere Brian Arrigo announced his candidacy for reelection earlier this month. He first took office in 2016, after defeating then-incumbent Councillor-at-Large Dan Rizzo in a close race. This year could be a repeat of history, as Rizzo announced once again he is running for Mayor. Rizzo previously served as Griswold Park is also named in memory of Revere High School softball catcher Vanessa Ardagna, who passed away from cancer in 2007. For the past few years, he has been serving as a Councillor-at-Large after losing to Joseph Boncore of Winthrop for the state senate seat vacated by Anthony Petruccelli, who is now a lobbyist.
