In the 2017 local election, Patch captured 67 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Arthur DeMattia. When asked about his reason for retiring, Patch said he wanted to spend more time with family and that it was time to retire. However, Patch said he plans to serve out the rest of his term. He didn’t tell the other councillors about his intentions prior to the meeting, saying they would’ve encouraged him to stay. Ward 6 Councillor Charlie Patch, who plans to carry out the rest of his term, announced his retirement during Monday’s City Council meeting at City Hall.
