THE REVERE ADVOCATE – FRIDAY, JANUARY 22, 2021 Page 9 Moderna vaccination for first responders “historic” By Tara Vocino S eventy-seven Revere police offi cers, 87 fi re dept. personnel and 19 911 dispatchers were vaccinated at the Rumney Marsh Academy last Friday. According to Revere Public Health Director Lauren Buck, the Cities of Chelsea and Revere and the Town of Winthrop, in partnership with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, hosted a three-day COVID-19 vaccination clinic for 600 fi rst responders across the cities’ police, fi re, EMS and 911 dispatch, as well as private ambulance services, FBI agents, harbormasters and court offi cers. First responders have been assigned appointments through an online scheduling platform, based on their availability. The clinic has been approved by the Department of Public Health and will follow all safety protocols and vaccination clinic best practices. Additional support has been provided by Cataldo Ambulance. Buck said the Moderna vaccine, which combats the virus Covid-19, is more easily stored in smaller increments. Revere Fire Chief Christopher Bright raised his fi st in victory after receiving a dose of the Modern vaccine at Rumney Marsh Academy on Friday. Winthrop Fire Chief Paul Flanagan said the department faced the fi rst death resulting from COVID-19. Nurse Susan Gaughan gave the fi rst shot to Revere Police Offi cer Paul Crevoiserat, who said he’s glad he had an early opportunity to be vaccinated. Revere Fire Lt. Michael Conley gave a thumbs-up as he did his part to protect his brothers in the fi re service, the community and his family. Public Health Nurse Meredith Hurley vaccinated Revere Police Offi cer Julie Malvarosa, who said it was “easy peasy.” Displaying his vaccination card, Revere Police Sgt. John Gagliardi said he recommends that everyone get vaccinated when possible. COVID-19 response team member Mia Haddad and Cambridge Health Alliance’s Kathy Maguire, RN, checked in 200 fi rst responders last Friday.
