(Courtesy photo, Nicholas Moulaison Sr.) be available in the first week of February,” said Kelly. “We are working with the state, but the timelines are a little fl uid right now.” The inauguration of President Joe Biden could help clarify some of the timelines about the vaccination regime for school districts, she said. “I feel that by Monday, we will have dates for the fi rst dose of the vaccine for all of our school department employees,” Kelly said. “Then the second dose would be in one month after that because Revere is working with the Moderna vaccine, which is the four-week timeframe in between doses.” Kelly added that the health experts state the Moderna vaccine is fully eff ective 10 days after the second dose is administered. “That would bring us right about to the middle of March,” she said. “At that point, there are no other impediments that we can think of for bringing kids back for some in person learning, but we would still need to be in a hybrid model.” Because the vaccine is not approved for children under 16, the schools would still maintain masking, social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols that would allow only about half the students in a school at any one time. While the schools have had a hybrid learning model in place since the summer, they have not been able to enact it because of the high rates of infection within the city of Revere. “I don’t know that this is exactly the rapid pace that some would like to see, but it is at least close to a timeline that we had talked about in December,” said Kelly. There is also the possibility that vaccinations could begin sooner, moving up a potential return date. “I want to add emphasis on the fluidity of the entire situation and the fact that the city and the Board of Health have administered vaccines to our public safety folks,” said Mayor Brian Arrigo. “Things could hopefully be accelerated and happen sooner, but these things change.
