I am proud to continue working with ACDC to bring these much-needed homes to Ward 1 and to be part of making this project a reality.” ACDC brings 40 years of experience in preserving and creating affordable and vibrant communities in Greater Boston. It’s been a stark stretch to say the least for the Tornado soccer program for the past three seasons. The Malden senior class members have never been a part of a postseason push, just missing the cut by a single standings point last season, and then being lost in the desert of a 3-28-4 debacle when they were in 9th and 10th grade in 2024 and 2023. They persevered, however, led by this year’s senior captains: Juan Caballero Valencia and Abdul Kalefa. The pair — both thirdyear varsity players — organized consistent, offseason workouts among their teammates, including weight room sessions and then, in the summer, what basically turned into a “barnstorming” series of informal scrimmages on hot summer mornings in July and August. “We know a lot of players from the other cities in the Greater Boston League and we asked gram provides high schoolers with professional development and creative skills in creating change in their community. ACDC also offers Massachusetts's only HUD-approved homebuying education in Chinese and English, where Malden residents can access free financial and housing counseling. “ACDC is honored to partner with the City of Malden and the Malden community on developing 213 Main St, which will be our organization’s first affordable building in Malden,” said ACDC Executive Director Angie Liou. “213 Main Street represents our commitment to invest in Maldonians and the shared vision of an affordable and vibrant city.” Learn more about ACDC at www.asiancdc.org. It really turned into a great thing for everyone.” According to Kalefa, Malden’s other senior co-captain, the response from the Tornado players really made a difference. “We had about 13 or 14 players from our team who made sure they were there for every one of those games, and we had a lot of them,” Kalefa said. “We think it really made a difference for our season. It got us playing together and helped us get focused on what we wanted to accomplish this fall.” “We really wanted to qualify for the state tournament; that was our biggest goal,” Caballero Valencia said. With the road win versus Lynn Classical, Malden can call it “mission accomplished.” *** Members of the MIAA Division 1 Sta te Tournament-bound Golden Tornado squad include: seniors Co-captains Juan Caballero Valencia and Abdul Kalefa, goalkeeper RESIDENTS | FROM PAGE 10 Mystic River Watershed Association staff and Board (Credit: Daria Santollani) chine learning at DeepCure.
