Equal Housing Opportunity. grant to renovate the Linden Park Playground, Mayor Gary Christenson announced. “The City of Malden is grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for their consistent and critical support of Malden park projects,” said Mayor Christenson. “We are eager to upgrade Linden Park so that our students, families, and all of Malden can enjoy it for years to come.” The funding comes from the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) Grant Program of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA). PARC helps cities and towns create and renovate outdoor recreation areas. “With this funding we will bring much-needed improvements to the playground at Linden Park, which serves the Linden community and the whole city,” said Ward 8 Councillor Jadeane Sica. “Following on the success of the Linden Rink project, the new playground will provide a modern facility for our children and families.” This renovation project will be managed by the City’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development. The project will update the play features, add fencing, replace mulch with rubberized surfaces, plant new trees and install a shade shelter and picnic tables. To date, the City has engaged the public — including Linden STEAM Academy students — through three public meetings and two surveys, as part of the playground design process. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2027. Eight species are protected under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, including five listed as endangered. Two species, the Indiana bat and the northern long-eared bat, are also protected under the federal Endangered Species Act. While bats have faced challenges for decades, recent declines have been especially severe.”— MassWildlife TUBA thanks the City of Malden and the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development and its community partners for this opportunity. Bats in the City! is funded in part by the Malden Community Connections Grant to bring the people of our community together. TUBA has developed Bats in the City! with and thanks to its advisor Dr. Christopher Richardson, bat scientist and Adjunct Research Assistant Professor of Biology at Boston University, who has spent 17 years doing urban bat research in Greater Boston.
