(Courtesy Photo) O n September 25, Malden Catholic High School students visited the St. Anthony Shrine in Boston to participate in the St. Anthony’s Lazarus Ministry. The Lazarus Ministry’s motto “Honoring Death with Dignity” honors and provides burials for the homeless who have died. With assistance from local funeral homes, the Shrine has been able to provide funeral services and Masses to many of those who have passed.St. Anthony Shrine offers its services for free and even provides a grave space. Eight Malden Catholic students were called to be pallbearers for one of the services. The students described the event as a “profound experience” and something they want Malden Catholic to continue. Malden Catholic senior, James Guinee, said the service was eye-opening and helped the students realize that not everyone has someone around them in their final moments. “We saw the importance of our attendance today, as we helped this man finally receive his funeral mass,” Guinee said. “Carrying the casket at this funeral was an amazing experience, something we will never forget.” Brother Thomas Puccio, the Principal of the Malden Catholic School for Boys, hopes that this can become an annual ministry that Malden Catholic students can participate in. “It’s a beautiful way to be reminded that each of us, regardless of means or fortunes in life, deserves to be remembered with dignity,” Brother Puccio said. Mayor tours biomedical companies in Malden M ayor Gary Christenson recently toured three biomedical device companies in their new offices at 350 Main St. The companies – SpineFrontier, AxioMed and NanoFUSE Biologics – are biomedical device companies focusing on degenerative spine issues. Considered by many to be offering breakthrough technologies, these companies offer surgeons safer and simpler devices that alleviate back and neck pain and provide mobility – unlike traditional spine fusion techniques. “I am proud that these companies are located in Malden,” said Christenson. “From the research and development of the devices to the training surgical room for educating doctors on this new technique, the facilities are firstclass and impressive.” The companies, which are spread out over three floors at 350 Main St., represent an infusion of Boston high-tech firms that are changing the face of modern medicine. This brings the current number of biomedical companies in Malden to five. “I also commend the owners of 350 Main St., John and Matt Preotle, for investing in their building and helping attract these types of businesses to Malden,” said Christenson.
