Page 8 THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, October 9, 2026 Governor announces $103M for economic development and housing projects in Greater Boston Largest amount of ‘One Stop’ funding issued in a single round in program’s history Special to The Advocate G overnor Maura Healey announced $103,208,797 in 2027 Community One Stop for Growth grant funding through 81 awards for projects in 37 cities and towns across Greater Boston. The awards will support housing and economic development through investments in public infrastructure, site preparation and community planning. The Community One Stop for Growth, overseen by the Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), makes it easier for cities, towns and organizations to access state funding for projects that create housing, strengthen downtowns, prepare sites for development, build construction and support local economic growth. This year’s awards are being delivered through 14 grant programs administered by EOED, the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC) and MassDevelopment. “We’re investing in communities across Massachusetts to create the housing, jobs and economic growth our state needs,” said Governor Healey. “These awards will turn underused properties into new homes and businesses, strengthen downtowns, create good jobs and unlock billions of dollars in private investment. That means more opportunity for families, workers and businesses in every part of our state.” “The One Stop makes it easier for communities to access the resources they need to move important local projects forward,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “This year, we’re supporting more than 400 projects in every region of Massachusetts, including communities receiving One Stop funding for the first time. These investments respond directly to local priorities and will deliver results for residents across the state.” Malden will receive $600,000 through the Underutilized Properties Program to support Volunteers of America of Massachusetts’ rehabilitation of an underutilized property at 105 Salem St. The project will create 12 supportive housing units for veterans experiencing housing instability. Of the 402 projects receiving awards, 36 percent are in a rural community, 24 percent in Gateway Cities, 37 percent in Housing Choice Communities, and 50 percent are in MBTA Communities. Thirteen communities are receiving a grant through the Hearts, Hugs & Hope: An Alzheimer’s Support Group at Forestdale Park Senior Living O One Stop for the first time. In total, 207 communities are receiving awards, which is the largest number of communities represented in a single round in the program’s history. The regional awards are part of $330 million in funding through 403 awards statewide. Community One Stop for Growth provides a single application and coordinated review process for grant programs administered by the EOED, HLC and MassDevelopment. This is the largest amount of One Stop funding issued in a single round in the history of the program. The full list of grant recipients and project descriptions is available at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/community-one-stop-forgrowth-awards Following are more quotes about the funding: State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian (Malden, Melrose, Wakefield): “I’m thrilled to see all three municipalities in the 32nd Middlesex District benefit this year from One Stop for Growth grants, with more than $17 million being invested across Malden, Melrose, and Wakefield. The vast majority of this State funding will support our local efforts to address the Commonwealth’s housing affordability crisis and unlock roughly 750 new homes. Additionally, these competitive dollars will enhance downtown revitalization, small business entrepreneurship, and the use of municipal assets. This program remains a testament to the power of strong state-local partnerships.” Mayor Gary Christenson: “These critical investments provide essential support to Gateway Cities like Malden, enabling us to advance key housing and economic development priorities that strengthen our community and contribute to the Commonwealth’s long term success. We extend our appreciation to Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll for their leadership and their steadfast commitment to addressing the complex challenges facing municipalities today when it comes to creating new affordable housing units.” “Through One Stop, the state delivers critical funding and technical assistance that goes a long way in helping communities bring transformative economic development projects to life,” said MassDevelopment President and CEO Navjeet Bal. “Our team at MassDevelopment is proud to administer five programs within the One Stop and we look forward to seeing these resources advance housing construction, business growth, and community development across Massachusetts.” “The Community One Stop helps us partner with cities and towns to support projects that can unlock new investment and create meaningful economic growth,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “This year’s awards will help communities prepare sites for development, improve infrastructure, bring underused properties back into productive use and support thousands of new jobs and homes across Massachusetts.” “With these awards, the Healey-Driscoll Administration is making the state’s largest ever investment in local infrastructure to support the development of new housing,” said Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Juana Matias. “This is the roads, water, and site work that has to happen before a single home can be built. These investments unlock housing across the Commonwealth, and we’re thrilled to see local leaders putting them to work.” Housing Families’ 40th Anniversary Celebration Fundraiser H ousing Families is celebrating a remarkable milestone: ctober 27, 2026, 5:30 pm, at Forestdale Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, 341 Forest Street, Malden.
