Page 6 THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, September 18, 2026 ~ Malden Musings ~ San Rock 2026, Just One More Thing, Sir By Peter Levine J ust one last word for this Saint Rocco Feast season...to all you youngsters coming up through the Saint Rocco ranks — have patience, grasshoppers! I’m talking to you, Mariano and Carmella Spadafora, Mike and Will Cagno and all the rest of your tradition-loving peeps and paisans. Your time will come. Just ask Andy Rigano (insert smiley face). Before you can ever imagine it, you’ll be running the “big shew.” Be forewarned, it ain’t all fame and glory. The excitement and (comes with the territory) the mundane await you. You’ll soon be ordering the bread and arancini, elbow-deep in braciola production in Albert and Franny’s kitchen, fretting over the weather forecast like the fate of western civilization depends on the weekend’s clouds and eventually graduating to San Rock A&R scouts — making sure the entertainment brings in the pilgrims, keeps them happy and delivers the biggest possible bang for their hard-earned bucks And believe me young’uns, it will sneak up on you. One minute you’re the kids running around Pearl Street, next thing you know, San Rock is sitting in your electronic calendar faster than you can say “Jackie Robinson.” That’s how this thing of ours works. One generation hands the torch to the next. The people you watched growing up eventually step aside, and suddenly you’re the ones standing where they once stood. You’ll be responsible Saint Rocco Malden’s future: Left to right: Nico, Michael, Blake, Will, Carmela, Mariano, Braden, Rylee, Gianna and Liliana. for making sure the Feast continues — not just for another year, but for another generation, and another and another. Because that neighborhood you love so much — the same streets where your parents and grandparents (and for some, great-grandparents) grew up on, the same places where lifelong friendships were formed, families were raised, Sunday dinner was celebrated, faith was practiced and traditions were passed down — will stay with you forever. Those experiences will follow you into your careers and everyday life, passed down to your very own families, and will challenge you when you raise your own bambinos. That’s what the San Rock tradition is really all about. It’s not just a “Feast”! It’s a piece of who you are. Who WE are. It’s tradition. It’s faith. It’s family. And now, kids, it’s (almost) your turn. Viva San Rock! It is said in Malden Musings… ● And now an important message from those crazy cats and kittens from Malden High School’s Bi-Centennial Class of 1976! Bonesy, Frank Levine and the rest of the reunion committee and boosters cordially invite one and all to the 50th class reunion! Yes, those young pups from the class of ’76 will be getting together at the Hilton in Woburn on Saturday, Sept. 26, for fun, frivolity and much merrymaking. Send a check for $76 to Brian “Bonesy” Carroll at 563 Fellsway East in Malden or Venmo Julie Ann at @jasm76. Tickets are reasonably priced at $76 (get it? class of 1976!) with a cash bar cocktail hour at 6 — a swell feed and much merriment to follow immediately after. There’ll be dancing (for those still able), tales of yesteryear both tall and otherwise, maybe a drunken rendition or two of the school fight song — “Our colors are the Blue & Gold, our war cry M.H.S….” and pure unfiltered ’70s-style shenanigans all night long (guys, make sure you limit Rocco’s wine intake!). By the way, nap rooms are available upon request! Insert smiley face and have fun, you crazy kids! ● Speaking of crazy kids, happy 72 years of wedded bliss go out to Edwin and Carol Woods. Lifelong Malden residents and high school sweethearts Edwin (“Ed”) and Carol celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on August 29, 2026. They married at Sacred Heart in Malden Square in 1954 (you read that right). Both alumni of Malden High School’s Class of 1951, raising one of the nicest boys to ever hang around Lincoln Park, Bobby “Woodsy” Wood (believe me, they weren’t all nice like Bobby — insert smiley face). Woodsy is a 1976 MHS graduate and his presence at the 50th reunion would probably be greeted with great big bear hugs. ● By the way, Ed gifted me a wonderful handmade wooden bunk bed for dolls that my fiveyear-old granddaughter Lana simply adored when I gave it to her at Christmas. Thank you, my friend, you made Lana’s morning! ● Rest in peace Marjorie A. MUSINGS| SEE PAGE 18 FLEET CARD Check Out Our LOW PRICES!
