Our September meeting is September 14 [from 6:30-8:00] at Cambridge Health Alliance, 195 Canal Street, Malden. The meeting takes place in the community conference room on the first floor accessible by the main entrance. Go through the big double door entry to the main hallway and take your first left through a set of doors and the conference room is on your left. The agenda will include: The Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development's proposed Commercial Street zoning overlay and the proposed changes to the Malden River Building Site Review Please save these dates on your calendar: ● Saturday, September 12, 10:00-12:00 a.m.: Idle Hands Malden River/Neighborhood Cleanup starting at Idle Hands Craft Ales (all ages are welcome). Cleanup participants are rewarded with free entry to the 15th year of Idle Hands Oktoberfest (all ages) with music, dance, notable and has to be considered commendable. We could look to the fact that we had two Malden candidates in a state Senate race that featured an open seat for the first time in six elections for the boost in voter interest. In the Democratic primary, local Councillor-at-Large Carey McDonald topped the Malden ticket in the local 5th District Senate tally to replace outgoing Sen. Jason Lewis, topping overall winner state Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian (D-32nd Middlesex, Melrose, Malden) and Malden Ward 4 Councillor Ryan O’Malley. We also had popular Malden resident U.S. Senator Ed Markey fending off another younger Congressman vying to replace him in the Democratic primary in Seth Moulton. Markey won handily, though no one except maybe the Senator himself expected the landslide result. When sports teams win two championships in a row the rumblings of dynasty begin; they burst out loud with three. Here in Malden, we hope more voters go to the polls in the November State General Election; another 35% overall increase from 7,950 voters to over 10,000 and 26-29% or even 30% going to the polls would be very welcome to see.
