Friends of Fellsmere’s Annual Lantern Walk T he annual Lantern Walk will be on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to dusk. (Rain date: September 27.) The Lantern Walk be in its usual location: on the grass at the Savin Street entrance to Fellsmere Park. Volunteers are needed! The crafts activities are expanding. In addition to lantern decorating, the Friends expect to offer coloring projects for children and adults, as well as pinwheel decorating. One advantage of moving the event to later in the year is that it will be dusk earlier, meaning that it should be possible for young children to participate and still get to bed at a reasonable hour. The Friends expect the Walk to start at around 6:15 p.m. and end at about 6:45 p.m. — just before full sunset. The Friends stated, “We hope the later date means that we’ll have the same great time we’ve had before, with lower temps and fewer mosquitoes.” The Traveling Acoffeecary will be at the event again. In addition, artists explore a wide selection of themes. Several of the artists have turned to nature for ideas and reflection. Others have chosen to work abstractly and focus on the artistic process itself. In “Shimmering Moonlight, a Quiet Night at the Lake,” Malden artist Sand T Kalloch finds inspiration in places she has been, and the places she wants to be. These reference points assist her to make connections across reality and fantasy. In presenting this body of work, she hopes to encourage conversations about the reality we live in and the landscapes of the imagination. The talent and dedication of the 42 artists participating in this year’s exhibition are shown through painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed-media work, sculptural pieces, and fiber art. Creativity, imagination and originality are the common threads that unify the work in this exhibit. Members Exhibition 2026 is on display at the Center, which is located at 321 Arsenal St. in Watertown, from September 11 to November 6, 2026.
